Aug 30th / Tagged: flickr personal / 1 note †I seriously need to sort my life out. I’ve had enough of being the lazy, unmotivated person I have become. As soon as I go back to sixth form, things are changing, for definite. I’ve had enough of wanting to do something with my life, not actually getting up off my arse and trying to make my life any different. I do not want to be stuck here in a dead end job like most people around here. I want to go to university to prove to myself that I am capable of doing it. I’ve had enough of always feeling shit about myself. I need to be positive. I’m going to write a list of all the things I want to change and achieve in a year, starting right now. Fuck New Year resolutions, they never work. It’s gonna start right now for me, 31st August, 2011.
Aug 30th / Tagged: personal / 0 notes †So, 2k11 reading fest was pretty fucking amazing. Not in the sense that the line up made the weekend for me, because it really didn’t. I think all in all, I probably saw just over 10 acts for the whole weekend. I feel like reviewing each act I saw in order so if you actually feel like reading the shit i write, go ahead!
Architects - 8.5
I do really like Architects, and Friday being the first time I’ve ever seen them, I’d say they weren’t too bad. The weather was horrendous at the time of their set, probably at its worst in the whole weekend. Not helping much that they were on main stage which isn’t covered by a tent, so I was quite literally getting pissebd on with rain, anyway they were pretty good for the opening act of the festival and I will see them again most prob.
Does It Offend You, Yeah? - 8
Decided to see DIOYY because they were in the dance tent and it was sheltered. They weren’t too bad to think of it actually but I’m not all too familiar with their new stuff but I rocked out with my cock out anyway! We Are Rockstars was pretty insane but I heard it from the toilets as my friend was in desperate need of a piss..
Bring Me The Horizon - 10
Amazing. I loved their set. I’ve seen BMTH a couple of times before so I already knew they were pretty decent live but this, definitely, was on another level. This was the first time I’ve seen them since Curtis left, replacing him with I Killed The Prom Queen guitarist Jona Weinhofen (HE IS BEAUTIFUL) so I was quite excited to say the least already. They didn’t disappoint and their stage presence was amazing. the fact they pulled some guy up out of the crowd to sing/scream with Oli was fucking epic, and he wasn’t too bad either! You could tell that they seriously made his weekend within the first few hours of the festival! And Jona and Matt crowd surfing was pretty cool aswell, which resulted in Matt magically appearing on the vodafone vip tower (idk how the fuck he ended up there) and Jona on the left top of the stage. Was fucking mental and I was too pleased to have been there to see them. Also, ended up meeting BMTH at the NME Signing Tent, Oli is so much more beautiful close up, awh.
Rise Against - 7.5
Mer, not too keen on the band before and their performance hasn’t really changed my opinion. Watched about two songs but the lead singers face just annoyed me so I went off to see the rest of Nero’s set which was pretty good!
30 Seconds To Mars - 8
Was quite disappointed with 30STM as Jared sang around 40% of a song and just left the crowd to sing the rest which wasn’t really very powerful so it ended up sounding a bit like an instrumental of each song. Their best song, which is my favourite, was The Kill, purely because it was acoustic and everyone knew the words so Jared was actually backed up that time. He has such a beautiful voice, I don’t understand why he didn’t sing the majority of the songs.. Don’t get me wrong I love when the crowd get involved but it was actually quite painful to hear that not everyone knew the words to most of the songs that he handed it over to the crowd to sing. Jared did have decent amount of stage presence, putting on some guys onesie, getting a group of people onto the stage and getting his top ripped off by going into the crowd (he is seriously the most beautiful 39 year old I have ever seen..) but the singing wasn’t up to the standard I thought he was at. The stage presence definitely helps the rating I’ve given, if he were to stand on the stage doing shit all, I probably would’ve given a 5.5, just over average.
Two Door Cinema Club - 8.5
Last year, TDCC were fucking phenomenal in the NME tent so I was partial to see how they’d cope on the main stage this year. Once I found out that they clashed with Odd Future they were ruled off for the weekend until saturday. I had a few friends that are into OFWGKTA so I was gonna go with them to see them, but ended up not being able to get hold of them so i had to go along with the other group of friends that were off to see TDCC. I was a bit livid at this time but I wasn’t really feeling like going to see OF?WGKTA on my own so I just went with it. I REGRET IT SO MUCH. TDCC are a lovely band with a good amount of decent songs. I think they work better on a smaller stage/tent as their sound is projected a bit more, and its a bit more intimate. I wasn’t very close to the stage so everyone stood around me and my friends were pretty boring so I didn’t really get into it that much. It was nice to sing along to the songs but I wasn’t ecstatic about their performance as much as I was last year. Madness were after TDCC (I’ll write more about them in their own review) but whilst Madness were on, I saw a mate and he said Odd Future were fucking insane, which killed me. One lesson I’ve learnt this weekend is to go and see EXACTLY who I was originally going to see, even if it means I go on my own. So fucked off that I missed them, mer.
Madness - 8
Madness were just what I needed after hearing how mental Odd Future were, they were really jolly and cheerful, as were the crowds. I only knew a few songs which I think let it down a bit, but all the same, when the songs I knew were playing I had a good sing and a right laugh. I joined the conga which was supposed to be for One Step Beyond, but was actually delayed until the 4/5 song into the set which was pretty funny. Madness were good, but I should’ve listened to more songs before i went.
Crystal Castles - 10+
After Madness we went back to camp to prepare ourselves(get fucked up) for Crystal Castles which never ever disappoint. It was my third time seeing them and I’d definitely say it was the best gig. The pits were fucking mental, CC are literally one of the bands/sets I’ll ever let loose in, and it was just insane. Ended up having a fight with some douchebag girl with a bra on, but less of that! I don’t think I can seriously say any words that will describe how fucking good they were so I’ll leave the review at that.
Saturday was my friends 18th birthday so we all went back to camp to get smashed. A few of the camp stayed in the arena to see some bands they wanted to see and one of my friends actually ended up bumping into Rou Reynolds(Enter Shikari) and got him to say happy birthday to my friend on the phone which was mental!
Enter Shikari Signing Tent
Sunday morn we all repped the arena early as fuck to get a spot in the queue to meet Enter Shikari. We were in the queue for an hour and a half, which suprisingly went pretty fast! anyway, we went into the tent and met the band, my friend had a chat about the night before and got a hug from Rou which was sweet. After the signing we went back to camp to get some drinks in. I went off to get my phone charged and ended up going into the arena by myself (LOL) got a veggie burger and sat and watched Best Coast, (ON MY OWN) lol.
Best Coast - 9
I love Best Coast and when I actually realised they were playing Reading I made sure I’d see them, resulting in me seeing them, on my todd. I saw half their set which they played new songs so I didn’t really have a sing along. They were pretty good and I would definitely see them again, especially if they tour with Wavves!
Your Demise - 9.5
Caught Your Demise just as they were about to finish, from what I saw, their set was mental! my review is purely on the last few songs. First time I’ve seen them, will definitely have to see them again!
Enter Shikari - 9.5
Shikari didn’t disappoint at all. Seen them a couple of times before also so I know exactly how amazing they are live! I’ve kinda let myself go with Enter Shikari so I barely knew any of their new stuff which annoyed me a bit. Wish I revised before I went!! Despite not knowing a few of the songs, they played some goldens like Sorry Your Not A Winner which always goes down well! Wish I got a bit closer to the stage as i was at the second barrier in the middle, which meant I’d have to go to the side to get in which was too much effort! Definitely gonna try get my hands on a ticket to see their tour later this year although I think some places may have sold out. Hope not!
The Streets - 10
The Streets were the last set I saw of the festival because of the shit train times (last train home was at 11.11, WTF IS THAT!) so I made the most of it. Their set was amazing, so glad I saw them cause I’ve heard reading and leeds are one of their last gigs they’ll be doing which is sad! I’ve got a soft spot for Mike Skinner, he’s a bit chavvy but theres something about him which I think every girl can see! If they weren’t splitting up I’d definitely see them again in the future!
After The Streets I packed up my shit and left for the train. Although I saw probably a third of the bands I saw last year, I still had a fucking mental time and I hope everyone else that went did also! READING 2K12 I’LL SEE YA.
The end of this I was mid piss just to give you all a nice image in your heads <3
